Lose weight for a healthier life
Proper diet and exercise can aid in weight loss, as well as keep you healthy. The first step to weight loss is setting a realistic goal. To reach your goal safely, plan to lose weight gradually. A weight loss of one-half to 2 pounds a week is usually safe. This can be achieved by decreasing the calories eaten or increasing the calories used by 250 to 1,000 calories per day, depending on current calorie intake. (Some people with serious health problems due to obesity may lose weight more rapidly under a doctor’s supervision.) If you plan to lose more than 15 to 20 pounds, have any health problems, or take medication on a regular basis, a doctor should evaluate you before you begin a weight-loss program. Alcohol Consumption
The health risks for young women who drink are higher than they are for men. Many studies suggest that moderate alcohol consumption helps prevent heart disease - the leading cause of death among women. For women, risk of heart disease remains low until menopause. So, for premenopausal women, the protective value of a glass of wine is zero.
Alcohol is hign in calories. But moderate drinking is unlikely to have much of an effect on your weight. Conventinal diet wisdom says that if you drink, you tend to eat more. But the true effect of alcohol on weight is controversial. In one large scale study of female nurses, those who were moderate drinkers wighed less than women who abstained.
